Wines-2-Whales Mountain Bike Race

The W2W MTB race was presented for the third time in November 2011 after the first event drew 350 entries in 2009.  Entries grew to more than 1100 in 2010 and participants completed a total ditance of 230 kms over the three days. The race commenced from Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, took the riders over the scenic Hottentots Holland mountains via the historic Gantouw Pass and finished at the Grabouw Country Club after completing approximately 74 kms.    

Day 2 takes the riders from Grabouw Country Club along a very scenic 75km route through Oak Valley,Paul Cluver Estate,Thandi Wine Farm,via the Lebanon Forest back to Grabouw Country Club where the riders spend their second night.    

Day 3 commences at Grabouw Country Club then follows a 80km route via Oak Valley,Lebanon Forest,Houwhoek, down the old Katpas through Botriver,Wildekrans Wine Estate,Karwyderskraal Valley,up to Hemel & Aarde Valley,Summaridge,Hamilton-Russell and Southern Right Wine Estates,Sandbaai and finishes after crossing the Onrus Beach at the Caravan Park.    

Hermanus Rotary assisted with the marshalling along the routes for the first time in 2010 and has been invited to do the same during the W2W Two DayTour in May as well as the W2W Race in November 2011

The Club showed a profit of approximately R 19000 and this event will most definitely be one of our favorite fund raising efforts in years to come.
