Rotary is an organisation of leaders in communities who form Rotary Clubs to help those less fortunate than themselves. Rotary provides a template, guidance and support to autonomous clubs to build on the base of a century's experience in community service around the world.

The diversity of vocations within the membership, their personal networks and the leverage of Rotary International facilitates tackling projects at a far larger scale than would be possible for a local club alone. This network of business and professional leaders unites worldwide to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and to help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Rotary was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA on 23 February 1905 making it the world's first service club.

Rotary is some 1.2 million service minded men and women belonging to more than 32,000  Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas worldwide.

Rotarians meet regularly for fellowship and interesting and informative programmes dealing with topics of local and global importance. Membership is by invitation and reflects a wide  cross section  of community representation.

Rotarians plan and carry out a remarkable variety of humanitarian, educational and cultural projects that touch people's lives in their local communities and our world community

The Rotary Foundation, each year provides some US $118 million for International Scholarships, Cultural Exchanges and Humanitarian Projects, large and small that
improve the quality of life for millions of people.
