Rotary bestows Paul Harris fellowship on Johann Pretorius.
Named after the founder of Rotary International, the Paul Harris Fellowship
is awarded for any exceptional contributions by ordinary people for:-
Peace and Conflict prevention/resolution.
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health,
Basic education and literacy.
Economic and community development.
Johann Pretorius, an Optometrist practising in Hermanus, was nominated for
his continued contributions and efforts to keep and maintain the cataract
programme which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hermanus, Medi-Clinic and
private specialists such as Dr Anton van Biljon.
With the help and contributions of the above individuals and organizations,
cataract operations are performed absolutely free of charge to people
finding it difficult to afford this costly operation which more often than
not, is a life altering exercise.
